Civil War Photographs

Alexander Gardner's photographs of the Civil War are some of the most influential photographs in American history, but how should students think of them as historical evidence? In this lesson, students examine four of Gardner's photographs from the Battle of Antietam and consider the strengths and limitations of using them as historical evidence.
