In the decades following the Civil War, the US military clashed with Native Americans in the West.  The Battle of Little Bighorn was one of the Native Americans most famous victories. In this lesson, students explore causes of the battle by comparing two primary documents with a textbook account.

I enjoy this lesson, and I use it in SC for my 11th grade students. I love allowing them to see how textbook makers do their best to make up their own history instead of telling the real story of America.
A good lesson to introduce the Common Core to my 11th grade students since the settlement of the West is where we begin US History II.
I give this lesson all the stars. It's in line with the Common Core Standards, and any educator would be proud to be presenting this lesson during an observation.
