Historical Thinking Matters was a collaboration between Sam Wineburg and the late Roy N. Rosenzweig, founder of the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. With funding from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Stanford-GMU collaboration created a website that went beyond offering historical materials. We sought to use the web to actually teach students how to think historically. In 2008, Historical Thinking Matters was awarded the James Harvey Robinson award from the American Historical Association for the innovation that made the "most outstanding contribution to the teaching of history in any field."
